Doctor Who Confirms Popular Fan Theory about 60th Anniversary Specials
Yasmin Finney's mysterious Rose is the subject of many fan discussions, and Doctor Who finally reveals her identity to the world.
With Doctor Who's 60th-anniversary specials on the way, Yasmin Finney's brand-new character has been the talk of the fandom -- now the BBC has finally confirmed what everyone was thinking.
Ever since Finney, whose character's name is Rose, was announced to be joining Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) and David Tennant (the Fourteenth Doctor) in Doctor Who's November episodes, fans have been guessing who she might be in relation to the beloved characters. The most popular theory so far has been that Rose is Donna and Shaun's daughter, mostly because of the promo photos where she is pictured standing close to Karl Collins' Shaun, who is holding her hand. A recent Instagram post on the BBC's official Doctor Who account has just proved many fans right.

The BBC's announcement came just in time for Finney's 20th birthday, which was actually the occasion Doctor Who decided to honor with this new revelation. A new promo picture, featuring Finney's Rose, was shared with the caption, "Welcome to the #DoctorWho family, Rose Noble [emojis]. Wishing a very happy birthday to [Yasmin Finney], whose character Rose is the daughter of companion Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) and Shaun Temple (Karl Collins). When we last saw Donna, the Doctor had to wipe her memory. So the question is, what happens when Rose meets one of her mum's oldest friends? It is a mystery for now, but what we do know is that just like her mother, Rose stumbles across something alien, and from that point her seemingly ordinary family is never quite the same... [emoji]"
While fans are happy to receive a long-awaited confirmation that Finney's Rose is in fact Donna and Shaun's daughter, some are starting to worry that Donna's fairytale ending wasn't fairytale after all. Doctor Who's post introduced the character as Rose Noble -- not Rose Temple or Rose Noble Temple.

It's entirely possible that Donna is simply keeping things feminist and giving her daughter her own last name while she is still happily married to Shaun, but some viewers believe that it can also be an indication that Donna and Shaun had split up before Rose was even born. Either way, the audience will have to wait until November to find out the truth.
Doctor Who will return with 60th-anniversary specials in Nov. 2023.
